Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure commented the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
