Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
